India's first steel road setup in Gujarat
Introduction
Popularly known as the "diamond town of India", Surat will now be classified as the first city in the country to achieve the benchmark of getting a road that is constructed out of steel waste.
The road has come into existence by the combined effort of a quad of companies- CRRI (Central Road Research Institute), CSIR Inida (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) & ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India together with the government brain trust NITI Aayog, the steel road. San outstanding exemplar of continuous development. Set in the Industrial area of Hazaria, the road comprises of 100% processed steel slag. According to the opinion of CSRI, the density of the road has been bought down by 30%.
It has been reduced with the logic that it can avert the roads from any destruction caused in the course of rainy season. Looking at the past, this one kilometre extended road at Port of Hazira located in Gujarat, was in a poor shape because of trucks transferring enormous tons of load but under one trial this path was made completely from waste of steel, & apparently on a daily basis, 18-30 trucks are passing with huge tons of weight & condition of road remains to be in perfect shape. Steel waste serves as a bane for the environment, for that reason on the orders of government think tank- NITI Aayog, steel ministry handed out a project to put this waste to good use (for construction) several years ago & all of it eventually gave rise to first steel road being made.
CONCLUSION
Post this experiment, more roads and highways can be well made & the cost will also be bought down by 30% indicating a good sign for India's future highways & road condition. Ensuing the success of its foremost experimental project, the Indian government plans to utilise the steel waste in the motorways in the long term to bolster the roads.
